This year I’m working on being more organized and overall being a better manager over everything. So, with that in mind, I recently went to get my taxes done. I was feeling good that I was going about this task weeks ahead of the deadline which is earlier then I have in previous years. I was also expecting to be told that I had a major “return” due me.
Well… Imagine my surprise and chagrin when my accountant told me that this year I owe the government money. Say what?! That was not in my master plan. I had grand ideas for the “extra” money I believed I was entitled. She told me that in future if I didn’t want to owe money I had 2 options.
Option 1 was that I could ask my employer to take out more taxes. Option 2, was to give more. She said “it’s good that you give already but you could give more.”
I mean, who would’ve thought that the solution to my situation would simply be to give more? I left the accountants office determined and decided to do just that.
Fortunately, it’s not a new or even untested concept.
John 3:16 shows “for God so loved the world that he gave. ”
The bible is rich with examples of giving and full of encouragement to give. See:
2 Corinthians 8:12-14
1 Chronicles 29:13,14
And it’s not just about giving financially or giving to get something back in return. It’s about exercising the muscle of giving and growing in community with others and with Him. He knows what it means to give everything, and he knows what giving does not just for the recipient but for the giver. The beauty of our Father is that we can never out give him.
Takeaway – Challenge yourself to:
Give more love
Give more time
Give more financially
Give more hope to others
Give God more of your heart
Give God all of your issues
Give thanks – more gratitude
